Camp Hitaga Camp Hitaga is located on 161 acres of wooded hills and meadows along a bend in the Wapsipinicon River 25 miles north of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Camp Hitaga has been providing summer memories since 1931. It is owned and operated by the Iowana Council of Camp Fire USA, and is open to any youth entering 1st - 10th grade in the fall, whether he or she is a member of a Camp Fire club or not. Last summer approximately 570 youth attended Camp Hitaga. Financial assistance is available. During the Fall, Spring, and Winter seasons Camp Hitaga's facilities are used for various programs organized by Camp Fire and by the Hitaga Archery Club, and are available for rental use by other organizations or private groups. Camp Hitaga's staff consists of well-trained men and women all of whom are certified in First Aid and CPR Staff with special responsibilities (Lifeguards, Riding Instructors...) are also appropriately certified. The staff to camper ratio is approximately 1:7. Camp Hitaga's program is designed to provide fun and personal growth for campers in a non-competitive, natural setting. Consistent with the Camp Fire Mission of "building caring, confident youth and future leaders," special attention is given to the development of positive human relations and leadership skills, as well as to a close involvement with the natural environment.
